Abstract
Motor aphasia is usally associated with anterior lesions of dominant hemisphere whereas sensory aphasia is associated with posterior lesions. Exceptional cases, however, have rarely been reported. We report a 78-year-old right-handed woman who showed transcortical sensory aphasia of acute onset. The brain MRI showed an infarction in left superior frontal gyrus and middle frontal gyrus. SPECT revealed more extensive lesions in the left frontal lobe and basal ganglia. These results suggest that dominant frontal lobe mediates auditory comprehension in rare cases.
